Over 10 years ago when I was planning my husband’s and my first Disney World trip together, I got quotes from a travel agent. And then, I booked the trip on my own. I cringe every time I think about it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t understand then how travel agents make their livelihood, and I know there are people out there in that position now, so I thought I’d take a moment to explain.

I love talking Disney, and I love helping people - but it is also how I support my family. Agents do not have a salary; our income is 100% commission based. When I spend time providing multiple quotes and thoughtfully answering questions and providing valuable insight, only to have that information used for someone to book a trip on their own, my work goes unpaid. It is a frustration travel agents deal with far too often. The fact that booking through me costs *exactly* the same as booking directly through Disney adds to that frustration.

Disney includes the cost of an agent in their prices, so my help is something every single Disney guest is already paying for, whether they take advantage of it or not. This set up is a unique win-win situation not found in many industries, where you can support a small business without spending any more than you already are. I’ve heard people say “I like doing all the planning,” but when you use an agent, you can still do as much planning as you like! Several people also learned the hard way this past year how tough dealing with trip interruptions on your own can be.

Now, if you reach out to me to get quotes because you’re determining whether to go, that’s fine and part of why I’m here! If you end up opting not to go or possibly go at a later time, that’s just part of deciding on a vacation. It’s the inquiries I spend time on that end up in a booked trip that’s not through me that are - well, I’ll just say it - heartbreaking. This kind of thing is why I see more and more agents implementing a planning fee, to protect their time and work. I would prefer not to go that route, but I do understand it. And one more thing worth noting, is that when a trip isn’t booked through me, I can no longer provide assistance, even with a “quick question.”

All of this is why, when I say “Thank you” to those who have booked with me, or plan to in the future, or have sent referrals my way, or support my page, I truly mean it. You can’t know what you don’t know, just like I didn’t 10 years ago, so I thought I’d take the time to share this insight. Thank you for reading, and I look forward to help making more magical memories! Fill out my quote request form to get started:?
